Divorce

The most common way to get divorced in Pennsylvania is through a no-fault divorce. This is a divorce where you do not have to prove that your spouse did anything wrong. If you and your spouse both agree to a no-fault divorce, a divorce can be entered after a 90-day waiting period. Otherwise, a divorce can be entered after one year of separation.

If you are filing for divorce you may have rights to certain marital property. Marital property is generally all property that is acquired during the marriage and can include things like a house, cars, and retirement funds. You may also be entitled to some type of financial support if your spouse supported you during the marriage.

The costs for filing for divorce may vary depending on your county, but if you cannot afford to pay the fees you can ask the court to waive them.
